Vedic Mathematics is one of the ancient system of Mathematics, with lots of short cut tricks used for Addition, Subtraction , Multiplication and Division. It was rediscovered by Shri Bharati Krishna Tirathiji Maharaj during the period 1911-1918. In ancient systems, there were 4 vedas, Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda. Vedic Maths was originated from Atharva Veda. It has 16 Sutras and 13 Sub Sutras.
The 16 Sutras of Vedic Mathematics are as follows:
1. Ekadhikena Purvena (One more than one before) (Successor)
2. Ekanyunena Purvena (One less) (Predecessor)
3. Nikhilam Navatascaramam Dasatah (All From 9 Last From 10)
4. Sopantyadvyamantyam (The Ultimate and Twice the Penultimate)
5. Urdhva Tiryagbhyam (Vertically and Crosswise)
6. Paravartya Yojayet (Transpose and Apply)
7. Sunyam Samya Samuccaye (If the Samuccaya is the same, it is zero)
8. Anurupye Sunyamanyat (If one is in Ratio, the Other is zero),
9. Puranapuranabhyam (By the completion or no- completion)
10. Calana Kalanabhyam (Differential Calculus)
11. Yavadunam (By the Deficiency)
12. Sankalana Vyavakalanabhyam (By Addition and By Subtraction)
13. Sesanyankena Caramena (The Remainders by the Last Digit)
14. Vyastisamastih (Specific and General)
15. Gunakasamuccayah (All the Multipliers)
16. Gunitasamuccayah (The Product of the Sum)
The 13 Sub Sutras are as follows:
1. Anurupyena (Proportionately)
2. Adyamadyenantyamantyena (The First by First and Last by last)
3. Dwandwayougah (Duplex Combination)
4. Vestanam (By Osculation)
5. Vilokanam (By Mere Observation)
6. Antyayordasakepi (Last Totalling 10)
7. Yavadunam Tavadunikrutya Varganca Yojayet ( Whatever the deficiency, less on (or add) by that amount and set up the square of the deficiency)
8. Yavadunam Tavadunam (Less on by the Deficiency)
9. Anytayoreva (Only the Last Terms)
10. Samuccayagunitah (The Sum of the Products)
11. Lopanasthapanabhyam (By Alternate Elimination and Retention)
12. Gunitasamuccayah Samuccayagunitah (The Product of the Sum is the Sum of the Products)
13. Kevalaih Saptakam Gunyat (For 7 the Multiplier is 143)
